In my first post I gave an overview of the traditional subject matter of philosophy. What I would like to do now is to provide what I think is a good metaphor for the sort of activity philosophers do: the philosopher is a machinist & inventor of concepts. The philosopher, through history, starts with some idea, then identifies its flaws and fixes it, or at least improves upon it. I will follow this with a defense of why I think this is an important activity and what philosopher might do to expand the audience for philosophical thought.
